The program provides a uniquely broad overview of the built environment through studies in design and architecture, urban planning, sustainability, heritage, building systems and construction and property. It establishes a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between architects, urban planners, urban designers, heritage conservationists, property developers, engineers, construction managers and other built environment professionals. The Capstone studio is an Oral History Library for Sydney, approached through varied studio briefs.
This degree is the first step to becoming an architect. Students learn to design for the built environment through a studio-based program that involves working on real-world projects in and around Sydney. Along with design studios, students undertake a core program in architectural history and theory, communications and technology; and have access to electives drawn from the arts, digital design, sustainability and urban design.
From websites and mobile apps to the internet of things and virtual reality, the course is at the leading edge of today’s user experience (UX) design world. Students learn how to create human-centred products and services, and gain a toolbox of skills in visual design, digital media production, coding, prototyping and UX design. Most importantly, it teaches students to recognise and use tools that address specific social and commercial challenges and to solve real-world problems.
The Masters of Architecture offers an exciting way to think forward and make a better world. It challenges students to expand their conceptual and creative skills while being grounded in the requirements essential for professional registration and practice. In their graduating semester, students elect to do a design studio and thesis or a combined design studio thesis with a critical, experimental and engaged focus, exploring ideas around but not limited to Connecting to Country, social housing and reimagining our cities.
The Master of Design provides new skills for industry leaders of tomorrow. The projects seen here are a culmination of our students' efforts across the Master of Design, and serve to showcase work completed across a range of units in the Master of Design.
The degree lays the ground to design for the future using the emergent technologies of today. The program infuses technological innovation with human-centred design thinking. The result is an understanding of ways to design interactive products and systems that will have lasting cultural and commercial importance. Design is looked at across multiple platforms and scales – from wearable computing and mobile applications to interactive architecture, responsive environments and urban informatics. Ideas may become the basis of prototype products, patents or start-up services.
The Master of Urban Design/Urbanism offers a dynamic platform for shaping the future of cities and communities. Integrating urban design, planning, heritage conservation, and governance, the program equips students to address challenges across urban scales, with a focus on sustainability and Indigenous perspectives. Through core and elective units and a hands-on capstone studio, students gain expertise in areas like place-making, urban data science, and infrastructure planning, preparing them to transform urban environments.
