The core concept of the project is expressing and preserving the Betawi language and culture through temporary buildings while revitalizing the social function and cultural vibrancy of Taman Fatahillah. The project aims to construct a multifunctional cultural space in Taman Fatahillah. The various forms of cultural activities will make contemporary residents and tourists can come into contact with the Betawi language and culture. In addition, the Betawi language and culture will be a starting point to enable the public to understand its history and characteristics of, and clarify the indigenous identity of Betawi people in Jakarta.
The main project revolves around the fountain design in the center of the square, making the central area of the square a gathering space.
Betawi culture is a diverse culture formed by the integration of numerous ethnic groups. By building areas related to language, drama, handicrafts, and food, people can gain a deeper understanding of Betawi culture.
The theater, as the main space of the project, has rich functions. The multi-layered stage design provides more possibilities for theatrical performances.
The temporary building design with wooden frame structure makes the project more flexible and sustainable.
The observation tower allows tourists to have a panoramic view of the historical buildings of the entire square. Meanwhile, it can be used as a stage to perform throughout the entire square during festivals.
