Civic Cultivation - Skateable Architecture

Teenagers often project an intimidating or unwelcoming image in public spaces. The unpredictability of this age group, particularly in Sydney’s recreational areas, tends to make adults and children observe these groups with caution. To better integrate young adults into our public spaces, we need to create environments that reflect and accommodate their needs. This thesis explores how we can design a recreation centre to suit the growth and development of teenagers living in inner-city urban environments. The project aims to accomplish this by capitalizing on skateboarding's "sportification", influenced by its inclusion in the 2020 Olympics, to develop inclusive, skateable architecture.
