Fragmented spaces as a social catalyst: Artist residence + museum in the heart of Green Square

fragments

The research is based on the fictional novel The City and the City — two cities that are geospatially enmeshed with one another, but residents of each city are forbidden to acknowledge and “see” the neighbouring city. Based on the novel’s setting, this project builds on the contrasting idea of using fragmented spaces to achieve social cohesion and how this contradiction accentuates community connection. The project proposes an artist precinct on site, acting as the social hub of Green Square Town Centre and bringing people of different backgrounds together through socialising and play.
