Ember and Tide is a theatre between action and forgetting, re-awakening memories of Balls Head Reserve's complex past. It derives a new life from something once thought redundant, celebrating the coal loader by taking visitors on a journey through the adaptively reused space. Visitors arrive at a musical theatre after descending two ramps that immerse them into the industrial relics of ember and then the tides of Sydney Harbour. Where the relics of industry acquire the romance of ruins, this theatre intervention advocates the ideal of the untouched, natural site intersecting with the demands of an industrial history.
