The new French Embassy in Nusantara embodies France's modern diplomatic focus on cultural soft power, shifting from the secure design of its Jakarta counterpart. Drawing from France's salon culture, it promotes inclusivity and dialogue through public engagement. The embassy's design uses the site's topography and strategic programming to ensure privacy and security for offices and residences while enhancing public access. Inspired by Aristotle’s view of humans as 'political animals,' the embassy serves as an open platform for intercultural and interfaith exchange, encouraging social discourse and forming public engagement.
A panoramic view of the plaza, as well as the public sphere, is freely accessible to the public.
The Consulate block and its side of the sloping green space with retaining walls.
A glimpse of the auditorium from the shed with a steel truss structure.
Plans, but not all. The horizontal rectangle is the embassy's office with the residence. The longer vertical one is the consulate, and the shorter one is the embassy's public area.
Some model photos, show the massing compositions and hierarchy.
