An architecture with a unified aesthetic to house the artworks of Yoshitomo Nara, the gallery architecture seeks to become a foil for Nara’s paintings and sculptures, exhibiting them in a pure way that does not distract from the art language. Certain features of Nara’s art language are embodied such as the themes of suspension and reflection, flatness, depth and proportion, the dynamic of childhood memories with more complex adult emotions, melding it into a cohesive architectural response. It is a colourless architecture aiming to direct spatial experiences rather than dominate with a strong form, order and visual language.
