Situated along the shoreline of Pirrama Park, formerly known as Pyrmont Point Park, this site was the location of the Pyrmont Public Baths, built in 1875. Although surrounded by factories, warehouses, and daily pollution, the bath was clean and gave the community a place of its own. This theatre project aims to continue the characteristics of the public bath – to remain peaceful and clean amid the busy commercial area. By exploring the site’s advantage and the muscle tension dynamics of ballet dancers, the design played with views and the concept of being “deceptively light”.
