A Place for All

How can the architectural design of community centres provide a welcoming and supportive space for homeless people and the wider community? This thesis explores how the successful model of the Wayside Chapel program could be replicated in Belmore Park, Haymarket. The developed proposal, is not only to draw from the existing infrastructure of the Wayside Chapel but to also enhance the support and assistance offered for those in need based off the research undertaken. The proposal includes two new community centre buildings, adaptive reuse of the heritage bandstand and the inclusion of park furniture tailored to meet the needs of both the homeless population and the wider community.
