Awakening of the Observer draws inspiration from Gordon Cullen’s concept of serial vision, where elements are edited and arranged to shape perception. This storytelling experiment is structured into three chapters: characters, plots, and settings. Characters are cut from a pivotal incident and pasted into a traditional novel’s framework. The plot unfolds as a narrative journey, with the settings—both site and architecture—serving as the stage. Guided by light, the journey takes the observer from confusion to awakening, inspiring acceptance and reconciliation with the world.
The first chapter examines characters in the attempted Trump assassination, analyzing the photo's success, media operations, journalistic professionalism, and netizens' reactions.
The second chapter draws parallels between characters in the incident and storylines from 'Journey to the West', illustrating the observer’s process of exploration through the novel’s narrative.
The third chapter shows the site selection and architectural narrative, integrating characters and storylines into the spatial experience, embodying the journey through the design.
This diagram further elaborates on the experiences within the five stages, clarifying the observer’s interaction with light, accompanied by detailed drawings and renderings.
The exposure of structured geometric forms in the open landscape demonstrates respect for the site while reflecting the concept of defining essence beyond appearances. The exploded axonometric view effectively illustrates the observer’s journey.
