Jakarta and Bangkok, despite their geographic distance, share a rich cultural and architectural heritage within the Southeast Asian sphere. Thai architecture, known for its elegance and spiritual symbolism, emphasizes symmetry and balance. The sala (pavilion), a central element, embodies Thailand’s cultural essence. The design of the Thai Embassy in Indonesia draws from three key typologies: elevated housing to address flooding, temple-inspired ascension to Nirvana symbolized by a library, and national identity through the use of the Ratchapheruk (orchid) motif on the facade, symbolizing protection, pride, and beauty while fostering connections between Thai citizens in Indonesia and their homeland.
