Temporary buildings differ from permanent structures by testing spatial use and acting as catalysts for social issues. In Jakarta’s Fatahillah Square, these structures can highlight social hierarchies—from Dutch colonial walls to today’s contrast between high-rises and slums—and Jakarta’s critical shortage of green open space. With only 30% green open space planned by 2030, the city faces biodiversity loss, environmental decline, and mental health risks. This design aims to use temporary architecture to raise people’s awareness of these environmental and social challenges, encouraging deeper reflection on what has been lost and on issues of equity and quality of life.
