CARVING

The Woolwich Dock area, historically significant to the Wallumedegal people as Moocooboola, the meeting of rivers, is redesigned to emphasise the organic carving of natural materials. This project creates a connection between land and water, reflecting the site's rich history and cultural importance. Central to the design is a partially submerged theatre, allowing visitors to experience transitions between land and underwater space. Surrounded by charred timber walls and dynamic architectural forms, the design utilizes natural light and texture to enhance the experience. Ultimately, the project embodies the theme of "Carving," inviting people to meet at the convergence of the Parramatta and Lane Cove Rivers.

The notion of carving serves as the foundational element of the design, representing the critical driving force behind the evolution of Woolwich Dock.
