The Fisherwomen’s Cove Theatre is a world of wordless language, light, glistening materiality, and dance. Brought to life by ritualistic vertical relationships, the movement of curtains and their reflections of dancing firelight signify entrance, and the commencement of performances. The structure lunges out from its delicate boardwalk entry, descending into the depths of this naval landscape, enhancing the verticality of the theatre fly system and articulating tangible tensions between the above and below. An ode to the Eora women who once fished in these waters, Marinawi explores the contradictions of the harbour’s history and carves a space for unity within.
