Verdant is a sustainable development with a focus on co-living, urban farming and community connections. The site is located to the west of Blacktown train station, in relative proximity to the town centre. The proposal uses three community gardens as focal points for a 12-unit co-living space, a recreational zone and a community farmers market. It aims to promote placemaking through a diverse range of spaces and target audiences. With its low profile, the development is designed to be an unimposing extrusion of the existing landscape that feels local and promotes the growth of native vegetation through extensive green roofs.
The site plan of the proposal shows the extent of its planting and the utlisation of extensive green roofs to encourage native vegetation to grow.
Through the floor plan, the diversity of spaces becomes clear. Each space revolves around its central community garden.
The co-living spaces bring residents together and form a warm and comforting home.
Through section, the low profile of the development can be understood. It is this unimposing form which makes this space an inviting and communal place to visit.
A calming and soothing space, this civic area of the proposal provides an opportunity for users to have a moment of fresh air among the gardens in between the busyness of Blacktown
