The culmination of the entire experience, the performance, the moment of catharsis itself, where the viewers are presented with the ancient tragic play, Oedipus Rex, brought to the modern Sydney harbour.

Catharsis

Catharsis is the exploration of the relationship between emotion, history and country located at Yurong Point (Mrs. Macquarie’s Chair) in Sydney, NSW. The site itself is imbued with layers of meaning, from its panoramic views to its deep connections to the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation who had long called Yurong Point home. The rapid spatial and material transformations both reflect and help stimulate the cathartic experience of theatre itself, whilst delving deep into the origins of theatre in Ancient Greece, as well as jarringly represent the immense loss of indigenous history experienced at and around the site.
