"Returning Vistas" envisions a harbourside theatre on the periphery of Ball’s Head Reserve in Waverton, retuning a site once scarred by industrial exploitation and robbing Sydneysiders of an important cultural and historical site. The theatre seeks to transform this area, integrating it into the cultural and ecological fabric of the present through its elongated path that starts at Fisherman’s rock and ends at Eagle rock, two bookends of a whisper of a story in Sydney’s past. The theatre's enclosure—metallic and scaffold-like—echoes the mining structures that once dominated the reserve, and is now an entity with no owner and encourages all to visit as if a beacon to the city. It houses a circus – an organic space woven into the fabric of the natural and urban scene, a chamber – a floating vessel permeated by the scaffolding that houses small music performances; and a restaurant office space for contemplation. These vistas become transient, inviting all to contemplate the site's compelling stories.
