Lantern Pavilion acts as a casual theatre for emerging musical artists of Sydney for young people aged 16-28. The theatre is a casual and flexible space which is able to host 250 people in a variety of formats. The idea is that the flexible space will allow artists complete control over how they present and perform to the audience. The theatre space is open and informal space for developing and emerging talent. The space connects to the exterior of the building for overflow audiences and opportunities for outdoor performances. As the space is for emerging artists it’s important that the theatre is part of an informal community hub that includes quintessential Sydney culture like swimming, sunbathing, indoor- outdoor dining and café culture, connections to the harbor and live music. The café/bar and Harbor pool sit’s across the theatre encouraging a casual listening experience. The Harbor pool also provides an extremely unique experience to the users with its deep waters setting. This is part of the revitalisation of inner Harbor pools over the past decade due to cleaner Harbor waters.
