“Broken Ballet” is a theatre located on the Sydney Harbour. It draws inspiration from an art form with a 600-year history, renowned for astonishing audiences with its grace, skill, and endurance. Ballet has pushed the limits of the human body to the extreme. However, the prevalence of injuries, detrimental mental health effects, substance abuse, racial discrimination, harmful stereotypes, and authoritarian teaching methods raises the question: should ballet be entirely rejected or reinvented? Broken Ballet seeks to dismantle the damaging and unhealthy standards of traditional ballet, promoting safer practices, championing equality, and providing ongoing support.
Conceptual and atmospheric collage juxtaposing the romanticised notion of Ballet's grace and beauty with the harsh reality of injuries and pain.
