Urban consolidation driven by transit-oriented developments across Sydney is expected to strain existing public spaces, yet planning authorities have largely overlooked expanding public open areas. Local pools, deeply rooted in our culture, serve as dynamic spaces for inclusivity and community engagement, reflecting a shared cultural affinity for water. Recognizing their importance, this project explores various pool typologies around Auburn, reimagining them through vertical stacking on platforms that are splayed to maximize sunlight, efficiency and to encourage spontaneous social interaction. Sydney’s densification must be thoughtfully harnessed through public spaces to cultivate a vibrant, inclusive city that nurtures its individuals.
