Beneath Illusions

“Beneath Illusions” is an immersive theatre revealing the paradox between sustainable appearances and hidden environmental harm. While the local community strives for regeneration, the materials and construction methods of the new sustainability center carry a substantial carbon footprint. Above water, the minimalist structure blends with the wharf, inviting visitors below the surface, where steel and concrete reflect the damage often concealed by sustainable facades. This theatre, partially submerged and carved into the seabed, uses architecture to explore the tension between what’s visible and hidden, urging reflection on the contradictions in our environmental efforts.

Down the crimson red ramp, the journey unfolds in a sunken courtyard café. A tranquil view lingers, weaving a delicate illusion between the built form and nature’s embrace.

As the descent deepens, a minor stage emerges—a tantalizing glimpse, a whispered promise of the grand performance awaiting below.

Before the final stage, a window frames the beauty beyond—nature's world thriving beneath the water’s surface. Gathered here, the audience pauses, glimpsing life beyond crafted walls, a serene reminder of the existing inhabitants.
