Imagining of the project within its context

The Vergeward Promenade

Once a bustling hub of maritime activity, the 170-meter-long Wharf of the Waverton Coal Loader now sits abandoned, its weathered wooden planks slowly surrendering to the waters below. This project envisions revitalising the deteriorating wharf into a vibrant verge-ward promenade lined with theatres suspended from towering cranes—an homage to those that once powered the coal-loading operations. This reimagined space invites visitors to engage with promenade theatre, where spectators become an integral part of the performance. Positioned 170 meters from the shoreline, the promenade offers an immersive and dynamic cultural experience.
