These are theatres situated in the bounds of a circular sandstone cliff on the former BP site of the Waverton Peninsula, formerly home to oil tanks. A main/formal theatre adopts the open air theatre-in-the-round model while an informal theatre is composed of a lightweight screen and stage pinned to site infrastructure. Within the formal theatre, a plastic curtain, closed during the shows, gives the performers some privacy. When the performance is over, the curtain is retracted via a counterweight curtain system, and the theatre opens up on all sides. The grand-stand structure is both terraced seating, for the theatre, and a public bench.
