North Sydney's Soul

The Soul of North Sydney is a project which aims to reignite the beauty and community space of Balls Heads, prior to the introduction of the Coal Loader in 1920. It features the benefits of the site that were lost according to Henry Lawson’s poem, The Sacrifice of Balls Head. All forms of life are invited to enjoy “picnic parties”, explore the “deep cool tangle” and witness the “deep grass and wild flowers grow”. The architecture brings the dramatic theatre of political debates to North Sydney, after Lawson’s outcries were ignored in 1916.
