Rewilding Urban Spaces

Rewilding as a practice relies on the autonomy of nature to reinstate ecological cycles and counter the damage driven by urbanisation through adverse climate change. Cities, despite their small footprint, consume the most global energy and generate a majority of emissions. This report explores mitigation that is targeted at brownfield sites, the most contaminated spaces in cities, developing a six-theme assessment framework to analyse the outcomes and benefits of urban rewilding in this context. Aside from ecological outcomes, the framework also captures social and cultural co-benefits to showcase how re-wilding can outperform more conservative remediation methods.
