Collective Storage

Collective Storage reimagines the Australian Glass Manufactures building on South Dowling St. into a co-operative housing project of 54 apartments of various types, a public market hall and commercial tenancies. The approach to converting the now Kennards Self-Storage, is predicated on ‘taking stock’, wherein elements, materials, occupants, objects and uses are recorded and taken as ways into design and decision. In these conditions, the architecture is not derived from an overarching, all-encompassing aesthetic approach, but from listening to the dialogue of things that exist and takes place at the AGM, a dialogue that establishes a meaning that is circumstantial.
