The site had an apparent connection with the Sky Country. An unobstructed view of the sky, and naturally orienting true SSE towards the indigenous significant Pleaides Star Cluster.

The Centre connects with Sky Country from its exterior orientation and axis to interior voids. Some voids span building height, while others span through different levels.

The voids allow for natural lighting into the interior, framing connections up towards Sky Country, and also transmission of sounds of learning, knowledge, and stories to illuminate interior spaces.

Thus, promoting conscious and unconscious connection and exchange between functions on different levels. Furthermore, each public stairway circulates around a building height void, accentuating the vertical connections.

The materiality of the Centre focuses on lightplay and the interchangeability of solid, translucent, transparent/perforated walls and cladding. Perforated metal filters light into the interior, casting shadows like ‘shining stars’.
