Covered Ground acts as a cultural graft between the Dharawal community and the shack settlements of the Royal National Park, south of Sydney, reframing heritage and memory on Country. The proposal weaves together a series of significant sites, each marking moments of presence and practice. These are places to engage with the subtlety of materials and the landscape’s quiet authority, places where culture endures, guided by the wisdom and conversation of Elders. Through this act, knowledge is embedded and preserved in shared connection, granting agency to community and fostering reciprocity between the shack dwellers and the world’s oldest living culture. In this exchange, both may sustain and repair one another, bound by a common care for place and material continuity
