Alchemy of Fermentation
Alchemy of Fermentation proposes an architectural journey shaped by atmospheric transformation, beginning in a dark indigo dyeing studio carved from the humid sandstone of the Argyle Cut. Here, cool shadows, water, and fermenting indigo create a dense, atmospheric ground condition. From this depth, the project ascends gradually through dye gardens, a water reservoir, and a lightweight pavilion toward upper levels of translucent residential and communal spaces. Through this transforming atmospheric journey, the design demonstrates how architecture can choreograph shifting atmospheres through matter, air, senses, affects, and time, mirroring the slow alchemy of fermentation itself...Never static, always transforming, like a poem, written by time.
