The Model Museum

Despite their role as effective instruments of architectural imagination, models rarely survive the long-term, destined for recycling bins and the top of dusty storage cupboards. Ironically, the models in this exhibition may soon share that fate as there is currently no Sydney-based institution that is actively collecting architectural models. This project proposes a Sydney Architecture Model Museum through the adaptive reuse of Marcel Breuer’s Torin Factory, reimagining its industrial gantry as a system for circulating and displaying models. Equal parts critique and celebration, the museum would be an archive for the preservation, study and making of architectural models.
